Monster of the Day #1725

I’m sure I featured the Marvel Frankenstein Monster previously, but the giant spider allows me to fudge. With the collapse of the Comics Code, monsters became usable again, and Marvel particularly went whole hog in the ’70s. None of them could rival the Wolfman/Colan Dracula, however, which remains really one of the best versions of the character.

You might want to wait till Sir Frankenstein kills the giant spider and you’re free before you start threatening him there Monster…

Ya know pretty much anything can be improved by adding a giant killer spider.

“…because nobody else would wear a hat like that, unless he was a Frankenstein!”

“Dude! I am just cosplaying!, can you tell me where the TransylCon is?”

  • maggie smith

Not terribly grateful to the guy who is about to save him from the giant spider, eh ?

    Wait, wait…

Reading left to right (as we usually do here in the West), isn’t the Monster really saying, “And so — you must die! You! I know you! You are the last of the Frankenstein’s!”

Sooooo maybe the Monster WAS going to kill him UNTIL he realized his savior was a Frankenstein. Maybe the next line out of his mouth was something along the lines of, “Dude, what a relief it’s you! I was gonna kill you for a second there, only I didn’t recognize ya. What’re you doing wearing that stupid hat?”

I think the problem is the fact the ‘Die’ line is below the top word balloon. It don’t always scan in normal order.

Hello, giant spider here. Can you sort out your daddy issues later?

  • Eric Hinkle

This was back when I first got into comics. Given how they were delivered out where I lived, I thought monster comics were Marvel’s ‘thing’ (even my first couple of Spider-Man and Thor comics had them fighting monsters). Didn’t matter — I loved those monsters and I still do!

I like how that knight or whoever he is is almost colored exactly like Dr, Strange. If the gloves were not so bright yellow and take the helmet away.

Art by Mike Ploog. I would not have guessed that.

Yes, particularly the Monster’s face. It almost looks like Neal Adams did the inks.
