Monster of the Day #1723

Here’s the gentler and rather more comical Briefer Frankenstein Monster. Again, this was a *radical* change from the earlier comics which were quite grisly. A very interesting shift in direction.

  • Beckoning Chasm

I remember seeing the reprint book of the kind and gentle one. On the cover, it showed a split-image of Frankenstein being terrified by Boris Karloff, and of Boris Karloff being terrified of Frankenstein. (He wasn’t named Boris Karloff but I can’t remember what they called him.)

I think rodents always add a nice touch to an illustration. I mean that sincerely.

  • Gamera977

So is ‘Awful’ Annie just a rude elderly lady?

  • Rock Baker

Could be reflective of the moods of the times. As we moved away from the War and Korea, tastes were more toward fun than horror.

  • Eric Hinkle

The way he’s drawn here reminds me a little of Marvin the Monster.

  • The hell’s up with that head? Were there no adults in the morgue when the good Baron went looking for one for his creature?
