Monster of the Day #1722

Dick Briefer’s version(s) of Frankenstein is an interesting piece of comics history. The early books were quite grisly, with the gigantic Monster slaughtering innocents by the hundreds. Then the book did an abrupt turnaround, with Briefer still doing the book, and became a gentle Munsters sort of deal.

There are happily numerous quite decent reprint volumes of this material for those who’d like to check it out.

Michael Jackson had he made it to 60?

“became a gentle Munsters sort of deal”

Let’s not bicker and argue over who killed who

RIP, R. Lee Ermey and yes he did do his fair share of monsters and aliens service. Semper Fi.

  • Eric Hinkle

Let me second bgbear_rnh and say Godspeed, Gunny. I enjoyed watching you on the screen.

  • Flangepart

Third: Always a better actor than even he thought he was.

Art Bell also died over the weekend.

  • Eric Hinkle

His show was so gloriously weird. I’ll miss him.

Oh yes, Harry Anderson died too. You know, Judge Harold T. Stone from NIGHT COURT? Yikes, three in a row like that.

  • LOOK OUT! LOOK OUT! IT’S THE GIANT GLOWING FLOATING HEAD OF THE FRANKENSTEIN MONSTER! HIS HALITOSIS ALONE HAS BEEN KNOWN TO KILL MILLIONS! IEEEEE!

  • Yeah, Anderson’s passing kinda hurts. My family watched a lot of Night Court when I was a kid.

  • Gamera977

I have to wonder at what an earful the Grim Reaper got when he came to collect Gunny.

  • Gamera977

Yeah, I’ve never listened to any of his shows though, I guess I should see if I can find a ‘best of Coast to Coast AM’ somewhere.

  • bgbear_rnh

Wow, he was a fellow ferret owner, at least at one time. Also recall he was the guy who played Dave Barry on TV, an interesting role to play.

  • bgbear_rnh

Odd stuff, I would catch it driving back from night classes. What always amazed me was competing conspiracies that contradicted each other getting equal credibility.
