Monster of the Day #1664

Earliest appearance of Death Bed. Kids, believe me, stay UNDER the bed.

  • Ericb

Are you sure they are better off under the bed? [Insert scatalogical Death Bed joke here]

  • bgbear_rnh

    The Dust Bunny Horror.

  • Wade Harrell

Assuming those are hoof prints (and not lily pads which was my first impression) I guess this is the devils bed? And is that his red…elbow maybe? What’s he doing up there?

  • Eric Hinkle

Does anyone else find that to be an impressively large bedroom? I mean, three stories high and all.

  • bgbear_rnh

I would not like to have to heat it.

  • bgbear_rnh

They might find that missing question mark under the bed.

  • Beckoning Chasm

If I remember correctly, the Phantom Stranger ran in House of Mystery.

  • Eric Hinkle

Rather OT but did anyone else hear that old Crazy Charlie himself just died? If you’re of a certain generation, as I am, he used to get treated like he was the devil himself.

Also, singer-songwriter-comedian (hey, I thought he was funny in ‘Cannonball Run’) Mel Tillis also died. I wonder who will get the bigger write up, the dead killer or the dead artist?

  • Gamera977

As a youngster I never could figure out how Tillis would stutter but had a perfect voice while singing. I understand there’s an explanation but I’m still not sure I understand it. RIP Mister TIllis.

As to Manson, having nothing good to say about him I guess I’ll just shut up…

  • Eric Hinkle

I understand there are several singers like that. They stutter horribly when they speak, but when they sing no stutter. Someone doubtless knows the reason why but they haven’t told me.

As for Manson, meh. Good riddance.

  • kgb_san_diego

I am not a doctor or anything, but…

As I understand it, music goes through different pathways in the brain, and the stutter part only affects the speech centers, not the music centers.

And as to Manson, yeah, good riddance to bad rubbish. Have an unpleasant afterlife, Chuck.

    12¢?!!!

Ken, I assume you bought these comics on eBay or at a convention somewhere. You don’t strike me as that old.

  • The Rev.

I would guess he’s finding these images online. I know his age, but a gentleman never tells, so I won’t say whether or not he could’ve read this when it came out. If he wants to when he gets back from Thanksgiving, he can.

  • In lieu of a better place, HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

  • Eric Hinkle

The same to you and everyone else here!

  • Gamera977

Once again I’m late to the party but hope everyone’s Thanksgiving went well.

  • Ken_Begg

I would have been five or six when this came out, so I’m sure I occasionally had my parents buying me comics this old. Shortly after this Marvel’s prices went to 15 cents, though.

But garage sales and such? Oh, yeah, I”m sure I had a goodly stack of 12 cent comics as a kid.
