Monster of the Day #1626

Monster fight and a pretty girl. Not a lot of subtlety there, but hey, the execution.

Werewolf by Night and Man-Things each have an omnibus (do complete runs in one volume sell better?), while Ghost Rider and Luke Cage don’t as of yet. Marvel’s also been rolling out their ’70s kung fu titles (there will be four Shang-Chi volumes, I think) in omnibus form. I wonder how they decide what to put out that way.

That monster’s face looks a lot like DC’s Swamp Thing. And speaking of faces, anyone who’s ever lived with a cat will recognize Werewolf’s expression. HISSSSS!!

I first read Taboo as Tattoo- Werewolf fighting Herve Villechaize would be… interesting…

  • Gamera977

Yeah, I was wondering if Swamp Thing was the other comics house since it seemed like the same sort of monster.

Taboo…did yon wee beastie smell like a cologne?

Swamp Thing is DC, Marvel had/has Man-Thing.

I think the rights issue was the biggest problem with Shang-Chi, with Fu-Manchu and all. Apparently it got resolved somehow, because the volumes seem to be complete.

  • Ken_Begg

That’s true, they may have prioritized those (there will be four volumes [!!] PLUS his appearances in Deadly Hands of Kung Fu) because they probably only have a window on the Fu Manchu rights and need to get them out ASAP.

Fu Manchu has been around a while, though. I wonder when copyright on his runs out.

I thought Fu was out of copyright? I’ve seen some novels from the 70’s and 80’s in local libraries that use him. In one, it’s Fu Manchu versus Sherlock Holmes.
