Monster of the Day #1621

I hope everyone had a most enjoyable holiday weekend. Speaking of holidays, of sorts, remember that T-Fest is coming up right, less than three weeks from now at Sandy’s house outside Dallas on Saturday, Sep 23rd. As usual, details can be had by emailing me at ken@jabootu.com. You know who you are, though. And GalaxyJane is back! Yay!

I think this was the last issue before Marv Wolfman took it over as writer. Artist Gene Colon was there for the entire 70-issue run, one of the greatest runs in comics this side of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby on Fantastic Four.

Got to be figured…them muscles could turn even Drac inside out.

Things that a vampire fears? Personally I would have figured on van Helsing…

Totally off subject but I finally watched ‘Jaws II’ last night and it was as bland a sequel as Ken reviewed it as. Though I’ll admit the final demise of the roman candle infused shark was suitably epic.

As to the burnt scarred shark I wondered if since there was loads of generic shark merchandise sold after ‘Jaws’ (since of course you can’t copyright a regular even if larger than normal animal) if they were going at least partly with making this ‘Bruce’ distinctive so they could copyright it. Then again I don’t remember any scarred burnt ‘Jaws II’ merchandise so I’m probably way off base here.

Yeah, the death of electro-shark was great if ludicrous.

Though I also liked that one scene where the shark swallowed that one young lovely whole, right in front of one of the Brody boys. If I remember right, it was the one who grew up in-universe to become shark bait himself.

So, a week of Marvel’s Dracula (back when it was good)? This will be something to look forward too. The writing on that title was sensational. Dracula was one of the most evil protagonists Marvel ever had, and yet ery often he had the audience’s sympathy. If only temporarily, before he did something horrible again.

You think this is something for ol’ Vlad to fear, you should have seen the issue where he fought the Silver Surfer. As in the actual Herald of Galactus, able to do darn near anything he pleases, Silver Surfer. And Drac won. Well, he survived.

  • This is hilarious to me: I’ve just come here from watching Jaws 3-D. God I love that film.

I hear that Dennis Quaid gives perplexed looks when the film is mentioned.

I was in Jaws 3 what? Maybe your thinking of my brother.

  • Well, we did get “Shark Week”, so there is that.

  • Quaid might be like William Shatner in that regard: He went out, hit his marks, moved on to the next job.

    Then again, he might not.
