Monster of the Day #1593

One of ABBA’s stranger periods.

There are times when I wonder just what was the budget for SFX with the old Dr. Who show. “Okay, now scour the trash cans out back, and if you find something weird and not TOO grungy, let’s see what we can do with it.”

  • Man, if only they had that much money.

I think, though, in this case most of the funds went to the actual monster form (which, as I recall, looked pretty decent.)

I hate when not only someone is wearing the same outfit as me, but the drapes match too.

  • That was actually how Blake’s 7 worked……

The novelisation of this story – The Claws of Axos, I think – is (together with the Dalek Invasion of Earth) the first book I can remember buying, aged 6. Good times.

Ah, the show had THAT kind of a budget.

I am confused, however. I keep being told that Dr. Who was one of the BBC’s best rated shows. Why did it then get such a lousy budget?

  • Mainly because it was a kid’s show. (In fairness, the budget did improve in later years as if became more and more of a cult success, but it never was much to write home about.)
