Monster of the Day #1580

This, as I recall, was a nifty item. Attempting to fix the TARDIS (this is when he was stranded by Earth by the Time Lords), the Doctor ends up in a Mirror Mirror alternate universe. Here Britain has gone full-out fascist, only the Brigadier doesn’t have a beard, he sports and eye patch. They are also plagued by devolved men. One of the grimmer episodes for the time, and a mark of the show becoming a bit more hard-edged.

  • This was my first Third Doctor story and thus remains one of my favorites.

Looks like Gabby Hayes is the keynote speaker at the cantankerous old prospector convention.

  • Inferno. One of the finest (and most tragic) stories of the original run. Watching the alternate universe Liz Shaw left to die because there is nothing that can be done just kicks me in the gut every time.

  • The best of the Pertwee Doctor.

Thanks guys, will attempt to get my hands on this one!

    “Don’t…call me…CHIM-CHIM!”
Many eps. I’ve missed. Many eps…

I liked Pertwee well enough, and I’ll admit I haven’t seen his shows in years, but he always struck me as preachy, like a disappointed schoolmaster. Granted, this was the 70s.

OT but sadly appropriate when talking about great TV shows of yesteryear — Adam West just died. First 007 and now Batman; I dread to think who might be next in a list of the fallen heroes of my youth.

    Thanks for everything, Batman.

  • Marsden

Some people you just want them to last forever. I’m sad that he’s gone but I’m grateful for what he’s done for us.
