Monster of the Day #1574

If Benny Hill did horror comics.

This might be the most sedate Eerie Publications cover ever. Even so, and I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but I loooove me some skeletons.

‘Stop whining Susie!!! We both signed up for the same diet challenge and I LOST THE MOST WEIGHT!!! Deal with it!’

  • Gamera977

On my tiny cell phone screen I thought the gal was a succubus till I noticed the ‘wings’ were actually curtains.

  • Once again artistic error makes a cover more interesting than it already is.

I point your attention to our imperiled heroine’s face. She isn’t looking at that skeleton. Her whole body is turned in a different direction. It looks more like the skeleton is over to one side of her.

Note, then, the direction of her gaze. Upwards. Like there’s something in the air. Something horrifying.

Outside of those observations, I really think this is a better cover than yesterdays, or the witch one. Not in the same league as Tales From the Crypt but good enough to get the job done, I think.

I agree : those looped curtains make it look like she’s got bat wings. Someone should have told her you’re supposed to wear the nightgown, not hold it up in front of you. Plus, how can a skeleton drip blood ?

  • KeithB

He is one of those creationist skeletons that still have fresh blood after millions of years.

  • Gamera977

Looks to me like the blood is on the upper parts of him like it’s dripping from the title but then why isn’t it on her too? I’m going to assume the skeleton killed her husband and that’s his blood splattered on the skelly.

Seems if a skeleton was in my bedroom trying to choke me the last thing I’d be worried about is modesty.

  • bgbear_rnh

You might as well as how skeletons can move without muscles ;-)

As for the nightgown, I am not sure modesty would be my first concern in the situation, but hey that’s me.

  • bgbear_rnh

Fits with what Ken was saying about re-use of art, like the original horrifying object was replaced by this bonehead.

  • Marsden

I thought it was mud from it’s recent crawling out of where it was buried.

  • Rock Baker

Speaking of Benny Hill, I just saw QUEEN KONG, and all I could think was that it was basically Hill’s version of the genre.

  • Could be. Never stopped to consider that.

  • bgbear_rnh

    adding “Yakitty Sax” would help.

  • Rock Baker

Actually there was a very similar piece of music at one point, I noticed!
