    I’m surprised none of these Italian horror comics ever made it over the pond and got translated. I mean, stuff like Asterix and the Smurfs did, and sometimes I think Americans buy more manga than the Japanese do. So why not these?

    It seems to be just smut since the rough translation I think at the top is “we give you more” and at the bottom is “forbidden to minors”.

    Oh, yeah, a lot of these are just straight out pornographic, and sometimes with monsters. Think Japanese tentacle porn and you wouldn’t be too far off.

    Judging by what I’ve seen of late in the graphic novel section of my local bookstore, being awful is no bar to being published in the comics world. Check out DC’s thankfully canceled ‘Wacky Raceland’ for one example.

    Although I didn’t read it, I did read a review on another board from someone who did. It sounded absolutely atrocious, even worse that that garbage “Powerpuff Girls” reboot.

    It’s one of those businesses where a lot of it seems to be who you know, not what your actual abilities are. And of course, in addition to knowing the right guy, there’s a lot of towing the party line. If your political thinking is in the ‘correct’ place, you can get away with whatever dreck you want to put out there. Independent publishers are a bit more inclined to trying to put out better product, but they usually lack the resources of the majors.
