Monster of the Day #1464

This film pretty much was exactly what we wanted it to be, taking plot motivated by b-movie logic (military killbots badly reprogrammed to deal with violent high schools in the future) and running with it. An amazing cast, too. John P. Ryan in particular looks like he never had more fun in his life. This is the one I cheated and sold by noting it featured “Pam Grier as a Terminator.” Unsurprisingly, that was enough to see it through three rounds of voting.

violent high schools in the future

Future is here and instead we have shrinking violets who need “safe spaces”.

What kind of a high school needs military killbots to keep control?

Besides, the tech nerds will just reprogram them inside a week and sick them on the jocks and thugs.

The vengeance of Sheldon. “Bazinga, A%#hole.”

I could see them in the next season of HBO’s “Vice Principals”.

If this is the movie I’m thinking of (and I’m pretty sure it is), it was surprisingly decent. I was shocked, in fact, by how solid it is. Malcolm McDowall gives what may be my favorite performance of his.

Sounds like you pegged the movie.

I kept voting against it, partly because it beat The Warriors which I REALLY wanted to see with the group, and partly because I remembered it being kind of meh when I last saw it (which was, admittedly, almost 20 years ago). I found it a lot more fun this go-round, and it is indeed a solid little B-movie. I’m sure it helped that this time I was able to identify all the important actors in it, instead of going, “Hey, Foxy Brown and a bunch of people I don’t know!”

John C. Ryan could have easily been this movie’s Dr. Nadir, but he had much stiffer competition for most entertaining actor. He still looks to be having the time of his life, though.

Despite the years, I did remember the most gnarly death in it; and as soon as the end credits song started playing, it came flooding back and I was able to sing along with a disquieting percentage of it.
