The prayers of certain Doctor Who fans are answered…

“Showtime is bringing racy U.K. comedy “Secret Diary of a Call Girl” to the States…the cable channel has snapped up 20 half-hour episodes of the series, toplined by former “Doctor Who” star Billie Piper…The first eight episodes of “Call Girl” will air this summer. Second season of 12 episodes begins filming in the U.K. next year…”Call Girl” has Piper playing a character with dual lives. By day, she’s a legal secretary named Hannah; at night, she morphs into high-class hooker Belle…The episodes feature explicit sex. The show is based on the real-life sexploits of a U.K. sex worker who published her diaries in 2005 but has not yet revealed her true identity.”

Eh, Piper’s not my bag, but this is no doubt the most exciting news for some since Saved by the Bell‘s Elizabeth Berkley starred in Showgirls.

    Maybe if it was made in 1975 and had Elisabeth Sladen instead of Piper I might be tempted.

    And though her character was like nails on a chalkboard Nicola Bryant was pretty hot too.

    Yeah, the charater was awful and the fake American accent was even worse but she was easy on the eyes. Too bad they could have made the character a Brit with a higher IQ.

    After checking out some pictures I can definitely say that Piper *is* my bag. But, I would have to agree that a lot of the classic Dr. Who companions are a lot sexier. The Hooker show sounds like a huge yawn though. I thought that kind of stuff went out in the 70’s.

    Showcase has allready started showing this in Canada,I havent gotten around to watching it yet.

    Regarding the New Who, having recently watched the first season of the new Dr. Who I have to agree with Ken’s earlier review that the idea of a 900 year old alien in the body of a 40 year old man hankering over a 19 year old girl pretty creepy. I listened to the audio commentaries and the creaters of the show thought they were giving depth the character and didn’t seem to think it strange at all.

    Unfortunately each half hour episode of ‘Secret Diary of a Call Girl’ is about 30 mins too long, and Billie’s acting is as wooden as the headboard!
