Monster of the Day #1364

Man, never should have bought that Tammy Faye Bakker doll.*

[*Ken Begg, King of Topical References.]

Speaking of buying, my purchase level is way down these days, due to a lack of funds and a severe lack of space in my Hoarders-level house. However, I retain two banes: Marvel Omnibus editions and complete TV series box sets. So when I saw two shows I wanted for a while, The Untouchables and Have Gun Will Travel–the best Western series of the ’50s–for a nice cheap price, well…. The fact I have like $50 in Amazon credits stacked up didn’t help my willpower any.

They are now stored in the room of TV show sets that will see me through my first five years of retirement, if I should live so long.

I seem to be in the same boat though not anywhere as advanced as Ken. For some reason I always want to buy the movie etc on DVD instead of just downloading it though someone like Netflix. And a friend told me years ago to start buying ebooks and dump the boxes of paperbacks. But for some reason I just prefer reading from a real book instead of a tablet screen.

Putting a DVD in the machine feels like drudgery to me now because of Netflix/ Amazon. I have a bunch of stuff but, have got out of the habit of popping in a disc.

Netflix has dump a lot of the good older stuff I liked in favor of what I can only describe as “progressive” or “hip” leaning programming. If I am not their audience any long, I guess I will go back to my many discs.

Before I realized it I had not read a book in over a year. I started reading a Raymond Chandler book I had to try to get back in the habit.

  • Mein Gott, if you thought Talking Tina was frightening before, just check her out as a prostitute. “Wanna date? Better be nice to me!”

I’ve never really understood the evil doll horror trope. Give me a few gallons of gasoline/petrol and a book of matches and no more problem.

  • Jonathan Coulton has a song that explains just why that might not be a good idea. It’s called, shockingly enough, Creepy Doll and there’s at least one video for it on YouTube.

Ok, no burning in the house no ;)

I’ll admit the Zuni fetish doll on ‘Dark Side’ did scare the snot outta me, but it was mobile… And burning was a pretty bad idea in that case too…

  • Crap. Forgot about the Zuni fetish doll.

That’s assuming that said devil doll will actually burn.

  • The Rev.

I finally saw that movie a year or so ago. My reaction to the Zuni doll: “Damn, that thing’s as scary as I’d always heard. If I’d seen this as a kid it would have terrified me.” Was definitely worth sitting through the first two segments for.

There’s a good chance devil dolls would *like* fire. ;-)

That makes me think of a new theme for Barbie — Criminal Barbie, starting with the ‘Arson Annie’ doll. Complete with empty can of gas and Molotov cocktail.
