Monster of the Day #1292

By sheer coincidence, there was a TV mini-series shortly after The Hidden, featuring a tough cop on a weird murder case who is annoying joined by a quirky person who seems to know too much, and proves to be a friendly alien hunting down an evil alien who hides in people’s bodies.

The friendly alien was a woman (a hot one, of course), though, so it was completely different. The mini was popular enough that it spawned a very short-lived TV show.

  • Oh the years that have come and gone since I’ve seen the miniseries.

I remember Rick Baker doing the makeup effects for this. The network (NBC I think) made a pretty big deal of it. Proved you could get away with quite a bit of skin tearing and face shredding on TV so long as there was no blood.

    Oh yes. “The X-Files”.

Was this the one where the alien lady got high off caffeine?

Ah, yes. Space Prison transport crashes, she’s the only survivor of guard crew, so the cop has an idea of what he’s fighting. And they use the old ‘They look like us so we can save on make-up effects’ plot. I do get tired of it.

  • I believe so, yep.

‘Something Is Out There’, I vaguely remember it.

I had to check the IMDB, she was Maryam d’Abo, it’s a hell of a career slide from ‘The Living Daylights’ to this in one year. (though I’ve seen former Bond gals in far worse stuff!)

Thank goodness medical science is working hard on acne treatments.
