DC was known for always pumping up sales of their superhero comics by putting a gorilla on the cover (hence Grodd, Titano, etc.).

For their supernatural (very light) horror books, it was skeletons, skeletons, skeletons. You’re getting no complaints from me. Just from Ghosts–this is the very first cover of that book–I could do a month’s worth of posts and I might do a couple of weeks, anyway.

    Is it just me, or does the guy look like Burt Reynolds? This being the case, it becomes a question as to whether this is a base for a Sally Field joke, or a Loni Anderson joke.

  • He does look like someone well known. I keep wanting to put him as Clark Gable, but the face really isn’t right for that. Someone in the Gable mold, maybe.

    Yeah, I can kinda see it. Someone, with almost exactly that look, that I saw in a trailer once for what may’ve been a 40’s costume drama. I can almost but not quite place the face!

    They were great characters. It feels odd today to think that almost no one even knows that once both Marvel and DC did so many non-superhero titles.

  • How about Guy William? I did a Google search of his name and came out with a black and white picture that looks awfully close. Same type outfit, with the mustache. (He might not be the actual source, mind you, but still…)

    I was thinking Reynolds too when I saw it but Gable works. I had to make an Ash joke so I did call him Bruce due to the chin.
