Monster of the Day #1201

Frank Baum did *not* tell all.

    “Bowser, Noooo…”
    It’s a science crossbow!

So are gorilla guy and tank-top guy on the same side against bear guy? Although gorilla guy does look more like he’s shooting at something out-of-frame.

  • Eric Hinkle

Ah, ‘Genus Homo’! De Camp’s version of ‘Planet of the Apes’ done as satiric adventure SF, with a busload of humans awakening from suspended animation to aid some rather decent sapient gorillas against the invading barbaric baboons in the far future. I thought it was pretty good, actually.

At one point the main human characters are introduced to a gorilla naturalist who is known as ‘He Who Always Brings Them Back Alive’.

Thanks for the explanation. Above there was a guess of bear and dog but, no one said baboon.

A goof demonstration of why tranquilizer darts are not used on humans, they can usually pull them out before they start to work. You need a taser bro.

  • bgbear_rnh

I thought dog too. It’s Mr. Peanut Butter!

  • Gamera977

Ah, it does look more baboon-like than bear-like now.

  • sandra

So the baboon guy clutching the girl has hands instead of feet, one of which is petting a dog ? That’s some serious dog lover.

Can the combined forces of man and ape defeat the dreaded were-bear/monkey?!!

  • That were-whatsit up there is a piker. He doesn’t have his mind on his job at all. Look at him, staring off into space, wondering what he’s going to have for dinner. Pathetic. Kong and the Creature from the Black Lagoon would be ashamed. Ashamed!

Ya, along those lines, my favorite part of pictures like this is usually the young, pretty damsel looking slightly concerned about something just outside the corner of the page. This one looks like she was walking from the opposite direction and sorta stumbled into the baboon/gorilla/man-war and is just trying to get past them… #1199 was similar, but, DAMN, that had to be something interesting to take her attention away from that wonderful doggy-spider…

  • Marsden

I think he looks like a young Barf.
