Monster of the Day #1170

‘Nuff said.

  • There will only be one Dracula, though Jack Palance comes shockingly close.

Rivaled only by Lugosi, surpassed by none, the one true Lord of Vampires!

… At least until we start asking the Twilight fans and their sparklepires (or is that all dead now?).

I never really noticed just how good Dracula’s Cagney is!

  • Oddly, I just watched this today. It was the first thing I wanted to do when I got home after 2 weeks stuck in the (literal) mud of Fort Drum. Lee’s passing was one of the few things I managed to hear about up there as I had spotty to non-existent phone service and no ‘net. Losing both him and Ron Moody while I was gone has just about broken my heart.

Weirder still was the realization that I’d never actually seen Horror of Dracula before. I thought I had, and I’d certainly seen all the sequels (even the shittier ones) as well as the Frankenstein flicks multiple times, so it was very strange (though perhaps also a bit of a nice treat) to see this one for the first time.

Cagney as Dracula: that’d be interesting!

“You dirty bat! You’re the bat, that bit my brother.”

There’s a joke no one else could ever come up with.

Lee was so awesome he didn’t even need to speak! (Apparently in his second Dracula movie he thought the lines were so corny he refused to do them).

“Made it, ma! TOP OF THE TOMB!”
