Monster of the Day #1114

Finally, a spacesuit I can wear!

  • A damn fine episode (with it being by Richard Matheson you’d expect it to be), this one, spoiled by a bad twist right at the end. I’m going to mildly spoil it and suggest its place here might be stretching the Monster of the Day concept just a wee bit.

Then again, I’m the guy who, when the opportunity arose, volunteered a picture of a baby with glowing eyes. I might not be the best judge.

  • Flangepart

Must be a heavy gravity planet for them, and the suits can barely compensate.
yeah, the twist was an oddball, but hey, it’s TZ. It kinda fit what with the old lady looking quite ‘normal’ for the viewer.
    Hummm…inspired ‘Land of the Giants?’ Ehhh…could be…

  • Gamera977

Funny, I was wondering if the idea for ‘LotG’ might have came from here too.

  • Beckoning Chasm

It has been a while since I saw this one…but didn’t the spacemen spend all their time basically trying to scare the old lady? (Sort of like Johnny in NotLD.) Did they ever make a sincere attempt to communicate?

  • bgbear_rnh

Probably trying to shoo her away to avoid what eventually happened but, only aggravating the situation.

  • bgbear_rnh

If only she had a phone we could have had a great mashup to include “Sorry Wrong Number”.

  • Gamera977

Well, after the astronauts cut a bunch of crop-circle shaped donuts into the ladies vegetable garden while screaming ‘payback’s a #$@$ aliens!!!’ the time for peaceful communication was over.

  • bgbear_rnh

A country is clinging on to hope as contact was lost with astronauts Poppinfresh, Michelin, and Staypuft during their deep space mission

  • Rock Baker

When they first showed themselves, they tried to communicate but were misunderstood and the woman attacked them. The rest of the episode they spent trying to rescue their buddy who’d been knocked down into the house. The man inside, meanwhile, tried to fight back against the giant trying to kill him. Size won out over their superior technology, however.

A true classic of the series.

and another guest appearance by the C-57.

I think Agnes Moorehead made it work better than many actors could have pulled it off.

  • SteveWD

One of my favorite episodes. It also has a great Jerry Goldsmith original score.

  • BeckoningChasm

The C-57 also appeared in “The Monsters are Due on Maple Street,” though they were flying it upside down.

  • bgbear_rnh

The crew over doing it with the Rocket Bourbon again.

  • Eric Hinkle

“Size won out over their superior technology, however.”

So Brawn beat Brains? Rather an odd choice for the TZ.

  • Beckoning Chasm

“Woo HOO! Check it out, squares! Does this bug you? I’m not touching you. Let’s FLIP THIS BOAT!”

  • Rock Baker

The show that keeps you on your toes!
