Monster of the Day #1062

I’m pretty sure this guy has been featured, but it’s one of the few such films to have some candids.

This thing was really a work of art, built over a stripped down Volkswagon. All I can say is, anyone who builds something like this is fine with me!

The larger frame lasted a while, but was abandoned, and apparently a few years ago was sold for scrap. What’s the friggin’ Smithsonian for, anyway?

There were several props, but most of them are pretty crappy and but briefly seen. Here is your classic “furry leg.”

  • Ericb

Sold for “scrap”? Ugh. Imagine what that thing would fetch on ebay. There’s gotta be a b-movie or mst3k fan somewhere with deeper pockets than a scrap metal dealer.

  • Flangepart

    “Woo, Packers!”
One of my fave. MST3Ks. Ah, Wisconsin…where the state motto should be either ‘Eat cheese or die’, or ‘Budget? We don’t need no stinkin’ budget for OUR movies…’
“Well, gotta go drain the little buddy.”
“Pork vacuume, I mean Sherriffs office…”
“In her defence, it WOULD mean seeing him sober…”
I can do this all day! Yee-he-he-he-he…

  • Look, I’m not a fan of the series, but did anyone else mental heard Alan Hale scream out “GILLIGAN!” as he vanished from the screen?

I love this movie. It doesn’t deserve it, but I still love it.

  • David Fullam

    Awesome!

  • Ericb

    “The music budget ran out.”

    “Humor of the 1840s.”

    “Brett Favre at home.”

  • Gamera977

I’m not one to gripe about all CGI being bad but this was a lot more fun though!

  • SteveWD

Bad CGI = meh…..Bad practical giant monster prop of any sort = fun

  • bgbear_rnh

A teenager behind the wheel of a Volkswagen might have been scarier, however, a fun film none the less.

  • Wade Harrell

“That spider’s using all eight eyes now!”
“I’m ready for some muskrat lovin’!”
“Well met my friend, this battle of wits is over!”

  • Rock Baker

Wow. Goofy as all get out? Yep. Really cool anyway? Indeed! I love the shot of it on top of the house. Hoisting it up there must’ve been a nightmare….

  • The Rev.

I actually caught this movie on SFC before they MSTed it, and loved it (along with “Overdrawn at the Memory Bank”). The Best Brains folks did a fine job with it, though.
“It’s a giant spider invasion of savings at Menard’s!”
“I don’t know how, but I just became sterile!”
“Does it matter that the spider ate him with its butt?”
“No, I think it seems suitable for this guy.”
    “Alan Hale digests a kielbasa.”
And every time we get Mike’s last tortured cry of “BEEEEEEEEEN!!” at the end I lose it.

Probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite SFC episode. “Werewolf” is still the king in my heart, though.

Director Bill Rebane is on Twitter. We follow each other. He really hates Obama!

I sent this to Mike and Joel on Twitter. And Joel favorited it!!!!!!! Also sent it to Mr. Rebane as well but no response yet.
