Patrick McNee as Count Iblis (Satan) in the Battlestar Galactica episode ‘War of the Gods’. Here he’s been shot, doesn’t harm him but does reveal this inhuman form. IMHO a real gem of an episode, really neat story and character interaction. And frankly way better than any of the Satanic villians used on Trek or Who since McNee here is a subtle tempter rather than a big red drooling monster.

A show I never watched was the new Battlestar Galactica.

Could be sort of a Glen Larson tribute week? 70’s/early 80’s TV just wouldn’t have been the same without him. It might not have been as cheesy, but it sure wouldn’t have been the same.
Also, as a seven year old kid hyped up on Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica was a BIG deal.

Ah-HAH! Thought the outfit look familure. Yeah…The new version did a very realistic job of dealing with what made BG hard to take after I started thinking about the whole thing…it’s a holocaust situation.
And the first series never got into that like the new one did…and that’s in addition to the cheapskate ‘Cylons look human’ take they took with the execution of the story.
New Cylons did look cool, though.

I have to agree with Gamera977, I thought this was one of the better episodes they did on the old Battlestar Galactica. I especially like the bit where Count Iblis visits Baltar in his cell, walking /through/ the force field door; as well as how freaked Baltar gets when he recognizes his voice as being that of the Cylon Imperious Leader, which would make Iblis roughly several thousand years old.
And I just read the article on Count Iblis on Wikipedia, esp. about his role in the comics. Yikes! Talk about convoluted!

I’d argue Galactica was by far the best of the various STAR WARS cash-ins/knock-offs. Easily one of the most polished/professional to boot.

The kick off/pilot movie was very entertaining.

I wish I could find where I read this, but Battlestar Galactica was actually in development stages in 1973, so it’s not as much a Star Wars rip off but it couldn’t get green lit until Star Wars made it’s money, “then” there was interest in science fiction.
Besides, Star Wars was a rip off of: Star Trek, Buck Rodgers, Flash Gordon, Dune, and Kirosawa, so I guess it’s the best blender of almost no original ideas ever. And I’d like to pause that I’m sick of Star Wars, it was never that good and I really don’t want to hear about the new one, I suppose I will have to move to Mars and hide in cave with my eyes closed and my fingers in my ears not to keep hearing about it.
Sorry for the bitchin.

I count you lucky, sir. I endured the first 4 hour miniseries and could stand no more. Every time some says how great it was I just remain baffled.

IIRC, the success of Logan’s Run green lighted a few projects as well.

Yeah, apparenty Larson had a script called ‘Adam’s Ark’ based off the whole von Daniken fad that he found no support for until he pushed it as a SW rip-off.
The Cylons were a race of Vulcan like logical aliens who wiped out humanity considering us to be too violent and unstable to allowed to run free. The network’s regs forced him to change them to androids.
Also Larson is Mormon, I’ve hear there’s a lot of stuff in there related to that like the voyage of the rag-tag fleet being kinda a representation of their trek to find the Promised Land in Utah.

With all due respect to those like Ken who enjoyed the new show despite it’s many strong points it was just way too dark and depressing for my taste.
I haven’t seen this particular episode for years, but I’m going to respectfully disagree with that Doctor Who jab. Sutekh of Pyramids of Mars remains one of the best Evil Gods in all Sci-fi/Fantasy. Pure evil is what he was.
