Monster of the Day #996

It was surprisingly difficult to find a still from the movie featuring this, but this publicity photo is more famous anyway.

  • Um… Not to be THAT GUY (despite totally being THAT GUY), but the numbers are wrong on today’s and yesterday’s MotD. It should be 995 and 996.

  • Gamera977

Not to give it away but I’m thinking this is an early ’70s movie with Jacqueline Bisset and Alan Alda???

  • bgbear_rnh

I assume they are a couple because she certainly looks like a b***h.

  • Flangepart

Never give your dog ‘Old Leg Humper’ beer. Or your husband, if he moonlights as a werewolf.

  • bgbear_rnh

According to IMDB the dog wore a William Shatner mask. I assume this publicity still was more of a photoshop job.

  • Gamera977

Interesting, I had no idea! Didn’t anyone ever do a movie using a Kelley or Nimoy mask???

BTW: I understand the whole revenge motive and all but still if I were a woman and looked like a young Jacqueline Bisset I’d be pretty damn happy with the body I already have!

  • bgbear_rnh

I am a doctor, not a psychotic mass murderer!

  • sandra

You used to be able to watch Mephisto Waltz on Youtube. Well, you still can, only its dubbed into Italian.

  • Rock Baker

I watched THE MEPHISTO WALTZ once, but I was so underwhelmed that I’ve forgotten much of it. In fact, I’d forgotten about this completely!

  • Marsden

I noticed that, too, but you are much braver than I.

  • Eric Hinkle

The Mephisto Waltz? Meh, okay, but it can’t hold a candle to other 70’s ‘devil’ flicks like ‘Gargoyles’, ‘Devil Dog: Hound of Hell’, and ‘Race With the Devil’ AKA ‘the Wicker Man meets Smokey and the Bandit’, sort of.

  • Ken_Begg

    Thanks for catching that, guys!

  • Ken_Begg

Yes, Race with the Devil is sweet!

    Devil’s Rain, too.

  • Beckoning Chasm

I’ve got “The Mephisto Waltz” in the queue. Thanks for making me regret that! Oh well, live and learn…or NOT…

  • Gamera977

I dunno, I really liked it. Then again I find horror movies about weird cults more scary than vampires, zombies and that sort of stuff.

  • Eric Hinkle

Yeah, Devil’s Rain is good. Ernest Borgnine turns Shatner into an emotionless Satanic zombie?

By the way, talking weird ‘cults’ in movies, Mister Begg, do you ever remember seeing a film set in the American Southwest that basically had the rather extreme but still quite Catholic Penitentes depicted as human-sacrificing servants of the Aztec gods? I saw that one years ago, but I can never remember the title.

  • Ken_Begg

Nope, sorry! Let me know if you figure it out, though.
