Monster of the Day #858

That’s a pretty sweet design.

The shot was much better composed than this, a nice widescreen shot (to emphasize the small size of the puppet, probably). I cut it down to focus on this fellow more.

A great puppet, although also party to what I think was the worst conceived shot in the Puppet Master series (and that’s saying something!) when he toasts that kid’s marshmallows. I guess it was supposed to be comedy, but it just wasn’t.
If I’m misremembering the scene I apologize to Mr. Band.

I vas just following orders, I svear somebody else was just pulling my strings

Granted I didn’t see all the sequels, and most of them I saw so long ago memories are fuzzy, but I think this guy only had one picture (the second one). Since the backstory was drastically altered in the third one, this little guy was effectively erased from the franchise (although, weirdly, he was featured on the box of the third film -a movie in which he is completely absent).

  • He wants YOU as a new recruit.

I figured the Fab Five would be this week’s selections, and we’d end with Jester. Nice surprise seeing Torch instead. He is just one scary-looking puppet.

Admittedly I’ve only seen them once, but I think he popped up in one of the Totem ones, which would be IV or V.

I saw II early enough in my movie-watching career to be shocked by what happens to the kid, even though it’s not explicitly shown (although it’s explicitly implied, if that makes sense). I remember thinking, “Man that kid’s playing with fire!” and kind of hoping something bad would happen to this annoying movie kid, never expecting it to actually happen. I am not sure it was supposed to be funny, but in light of the series it is a very odd bit of brutality that sticks out. Maybe that’s a part of my affection for him; he was the puppet responsible for the one truly shocking moment in the entire series.

It was hard to find a good pic of Jester. I think, probably for the reasons you alluded to (he’s the Field Marshall), there aren’t a lot of pics of him doing much of anything.

  • Flangepart

Nick name is ‘spike, am I right?

  • The Rev.

Yeah, other than perhaps a picture of him carrying away the goblet in II, he has taken little action over the years from which to draw on. He’s mostly just shown sitting around spinning his head or directing traffic, as it were.

  • Andrew Kidd

“Oh sorry, I thought this was Agnes Moorhead’s place.”
