Monster of the Day #851

Man, that’s just a gorgeous cover. You might want to skip the plot description, though. It fails to enhance the majesty of the art.

I have to get this one in first, though: “Those dammed Beaver Men!” See what I did there?

Is this all happening under water? I mean “beaver men” and what look like bubbles coming out of many of their mouths. As to why a carnivorous sauropod is hanging out at the bottom of some body of water … well that’s just one of the many mysteries of this paining.

I remember this issue. Basically, the Beaver Men live like beavers, so their village is actually floating on the surface of a lake. They also looked a little too much like Asian caricatures to be comfortable. The scene on the cover never happens, Turok and Andar only swim on the surface and never try to use a bow underwater. At the end the Beaver Men, with Turok’s help, slip a noose around the Apatasaurus’ neck and drown it. Probably not possible, but way more plausible than everyone playing Aquaman like on the cover.

Beaver men..,yeah,there is no one past puberty can avoid going there, Ken. We understand, buddy.

    Beaver-men and giant honkers…

    Oh dear…

  • The only thing worse than a carnivorous Apatasaurus is a Vegan T-Rex.

Turok, don’t you think you’re being a little bit hard on the Beaver Men?

  • Gamera977

I think it just wants to eat the thach roofs off their homes.

Oh that’s lovely. Another one I’d not seen before!
