Monster of the Day #845

Here are some still from 1952’s (justifiably) obscure The Jungle, starring Rod Cameron, Marie Windsor and Cesar Romero. Despite the recognizable cast, this is a real snoozefest, the sort of deal where you mark time until the last five minutes so you can finally get a brief glimpse of the above beasties. The film is available on DVD as a co-feature of the far more hilarious King Dinosaur.

Jeez, jungles are worse than deserts for our poor woolly mammoths. Hollywood just won’t give them break.

Ah, so it’s elephants this week!

“Once I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got in my pajamas I donno, Then we tried to remove the tusks…the tusks…that’s not so easy to say. Well we tried to remove the tusks but they were imbedded so firmly, we coulden’t budge ’em. Of corse in Alabama, the Tuskalooas, but that’s entirely irrelevant to what I was saying.”

    D’OH! Double Trouble! My bad.

  • Gamera977

Well, I can understand a double post for such a ‘mammoth’ movie!

    My apologies… couldn’t help myself…

  • Gamera977

Haha, Mr. Elephant you had to go laugh at those poor doggies in ‘The Killer Shrews’ didn’t you?

  • Ericb

Looks like it was filmed in the same place. Is it Autumn in that “jungle” ?

  • Flangepart

It’s so bad, I’m in an Elefunk.

  • Rock Baker

I happen to’ve liked THE JUNGLE, thank you very much. The film is also noteworthy of being India’s first genre film.

    The dawn patrol again?

    Oh, the aim of our
    patrol
    In a movie rather dull
    For to march and drill
    Over field and hill–
    [WO-O-O-O-O-OW!]
    In a stifling wooly coat!

So, this is going to be Mammoth Week?

Recognizable cast? I NEVER would have known that it was Rod Cameron, Marie Windsor, and Cesar Romero underneath those mastodon costumes. Oh… wait…
