Here’s an idea, Hollywood…

Try putting Jet Li in a movie that doesn’t suck.  (See also Chow Yung Fat, John Woo, etc.).

Sigh, Lion’s Gate so had the right idea, pairing Li and Jason Statham in War, a kill-crazy action film.  However, the notion of pairing those guys apparently exhausted their creative steam.  It’s an ominous sign that for a film opening on 2000+ screens this weekend, they didn’t screen it for critics.  Shorthand:  The movie probably blows.  I guess the best we can hope for is that, at 91 minutes (with probably padded out end credits eating up a chunk of that) it won’t be too painful.

Morons.  In a day when you have the superior-looking Shoot ‘Em Up due out soon, and following the at least dumb but fun Live Free or Die Hard, well, you’ve got to do better.  What a sadly blown opportunity.

  • Blake Matthews

Yeah! What’s the world coming to when the French…THE FRENCH! are capable of making better martial arts films and utilizing Chinese/Hong Kong talent better than the Americans? If you compare “Unleashed” and “Kiss of the Dragon” to Jet’s “ghetto-fu” movies, the unconvenient truth becomes evident.

  • Speaking of “Shoot ‘Em Up,” this may be the only time ever that I’ve wanted to watch a movie that has Clive “Plywood Personality” Owen as the lead. And that just might be a huge accomplishment by its lonesome.

  • If this obviously crappy movie makes more than Statham’s rather entertaing movie Crank, somebody gettin’ shot. And if it makes more than Fearless, everybody gettin’ shot.

At least it’s not a damn PG-13. Stop supporting neuter films, America! Adults, stop being afraid of going to movies! Kids, learn from McLovin and get fake IDs, but only use them to get into movies. Alcohol intoxication is bad.

  • The Rev. D.D.

The ads for Shoot ‘Em Up make it look like Clive’s playing his role from Sin City.

But I enjoyed him in that, and this movie looks like it’s fun, so I’ll probably give it a go.

  • Eh, PG13 doesn’t bother me. You can make a great movie of any rating. Pumping up the crap Li’s made in Hollywood with more sex and gore wouldn’t make ’em any better. Raiders of the Lost Ark is a *great* action movie, and it’s a fairly tame PG by today’s standards.
