I’m assuming this is a redressed version of the giant bird or condor or whatnot that rather quixotically attacks (for a very short period) Godzilla in Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster. The altered Godzilla suited used for Gomess, as seen in yesterday’s MotD, is thus probably the suit that was used in that film.

    According to The Pictorial Book of Godzilla, Litra has no connection to the giant condor from Sea Monster. The wings are completely different shapes, and the condor puppet was only designed to hang from wires. Ultra Q premiered in January of 1966, and Sea Monster was December of the same year, so any recycling would have to go the other way, and I don’t think they ever went that way. Tsubaraya seemed happy to recycle suits they made for other people, but they kept the suits they made for themselves in house.

    Plus, as noted yesterday, the Godzilla suit in this episode was the ’64 suit originally constructed for GODZILLA VS THE THING, and subsequently revamped for GHIDRAH, THE THREE-HEADED MONSTER. The suit used in GODZILLA VERSUS THE SEA MONSTER was refurbished from the one built for MONSTER ZERO.

    Yeah, I figured Litra was coming after yesterday. I bet a lot of people would be surprised by this monster’s special power, but I’ll not say a word so they go buy the “Ultra Q” set (which they should anyway).

    Looks like Litra was in those couple of modern movies Gomess also appeared in, but she’s (yes, a rare monster explicitly identified as female) had a bigger career resurgence, being one of the featured monsters in those “Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle” series I’ve mentioned in the past, the one that sounds like an Ultraman/Pokemon hybrid.

    We used to get him everyday on AFN when I was stationed in Germany. Always a highlight of the day.
