“Stinking Godzilla. Gets all the big budget gigs…and he says “Have I got a job for you, cuz…and they say nepotisim is a good deal…”
Eric Hinkle
This is an Ultraman monster based on the Big G, right?
Ken_Begg
Sort of. It’s from the first episode of Ultra Q, which is a precursor to Ultraman, but much more to my liking.
bgbear_rnh
Is this the Neil Connery of the daikaiju world?
Gamera977
Like many youths Minya went though a punk phase during his teens…
Eric Hinkle
Ah, thanks. I’m going to have to look for that one of these days; a lot of tokusatsu and kaiju fans I know really brag it up.
Ken_Begg
I’ve never been a huge fans of the Ultraman-type shows (waits for boos and catcalls), so I was surprised how much I liked this show. Much more like the old Outer Limits only with a recurring cast.
The Rev.
Gomess here was actually the first Ultra-monster, counting the “Ultra-Q” series; he appeared in Episode 1. The suit was originally made for Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster but Eiji Tsubaraya convinced them to reuse the suit from the prior movie so he could use the new suit for his new series. It was later remodeled for Godzilla vs. Monster Zero.
It looks like Gomess has been brought back in the past few years for a couple of Ultra-movies, which gives us its first appearance in color.
I bet I know tomorrow’s MotD, but I’ll say no more until then.
Roados Dragun
Gomess.

How come he only has a tusk and a horn on one side of his head?
bgbear_rnh

Actually the suit was first built for GODZILLA VS THE THING and subsequently re-furbished for GHIDRAH, THE THREE-HEADED MONSTER. The MONSTER ZERO suit was a whole new construct. When Godzilla-with-a-frill was later used on Ultraman, it was the ’64 body with the ’65 head attached.

The ’65 suit was further altered to appear in GODZILLA VERSUS THE SEA MONSTER and made appearances in SON OF GODZILLA, DESTROY ALL MONSTERS, and GODZILLA VS THE SMOG MONSTER.

Hasn’t this been MOTD already? I thought for sure this guy and his avian opponent did a back-to-back showing some time ago.
Ken_Begg
Yes, I made the Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster connection, for reasons which will be apparent come tomorrow.
