Monster of the Day #777

This variation came around after the Big Two, which was followed by the Semi-Big Third, and then the two after rans, including this baby.  I only ever liked one of these; I have a horror of those little marshmallows. I’m not a fan of marshmallow in the first place, and then add the way those little ones back then almost instantly assumed the texture of Styrofoam. Biting into them was the mouth version of fingers on a chalkboard. Blech.

I did rather like one of the cereals, though. Oh, the suspense as you ponder which it was!

  • Flangepart

Oh, yeah. Chalk board they were! A horror of the mouth. Methinks…’Spokesmonster’ week?

  • Ericb

The appeal of these kind of cereals for me wasn’t the taste but the characters. My most fond memories are of Sir Grapefellow and Baron Von Redberry even though I don’t remember how they tasted and they were only around for about a month.

  • SteveWD

    ‘Grape’ cereal. Ewwwww!!!!

  • zombiewhacker

They’re being re-released for October this year. I might grab a box of Chocula for old time’s sake. I might even eat some of it.

  • Sandy Petersen

And let’s not forget E.T. cereal, mysteriously flavored with peanut butter and chocolate, to resemble a Reese’s Peece, i suppose.

  • Sandy Petersen

I hope the one you liked was Yummy Mummy, by the way, Ken.

  • Ken_Begg

    Mayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy-be. We’ll see.

  • Rock Baker

I happen to like the texture of the marshmallows in Lucky Charms. (I assume all such cereal marshmallows are the same basic animal.) You certainly wouldn’t want real marshmallows in your milk, would you?

  • Flangepart

Ewww…sound like how a human might taste to ‘The Stuff.’

  • Rock Baker

    You can’t get enough….

  • MrTongoRad

It was Frankenberry for me! It turned the milk into strawberry milk on top of it, which is the bestest kind of milk in the world.

Actually- I probably stopped paying attention to cereals after the ‘Big 3rd’ was released, and so I don’t really recall this dude or any that followed. But I’ll always have Frankenberry (…and Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch…and Kaboom…).

  • The Rev.

    PB Cap’n Crunch! YES.

Not big on cereal marshmallows, but I like real ones. I’ve only had Count Chocula of all of these types, as far as I recall. Maybe Frankenberry as well at some point, but I’m not positive.

  • Rock Baker

Oh yeah, PB Crunch! That was MY cereal in my day!

  • The Rev.

I haven’t had it in years and now I am craving it. Dammit.

I really dug Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Krispies as well. I still like the latter, but Fruity Pebbles aren’t as good as I remember.

I have no doubt PBCC is still great, too.

  • Marsden

I remember this as a kid, I thought I imagined it, as it disappeared without a trace for quite some time.

  • Rock Baker

I have found that the generic knock-off of Cocoa Pebbles is a superior taste these days, and it comes in giant bags! Still, I think the actual official Fruity Pebbles are better than their knock-off, but only slightly.
