I mentioned these photos probably over a year ago. Found them and then never got around to posting them. The museum isn't a big place, a former store that looks like a five & dime from the '50-'60s converted over. There's various clippings from newspapers, a few stuffed mMthmen (like stuffed toys not a taxidermy animal!), a manikin Man In Black, a few props from the Richard Gere movie, and some of the plywood Mothmen used in the Monster Quest used to see how well people could judge size of something seen briefly from a moving car (not too well).

Unfortunately the owner was off when I was there but I had a interesting conversation with the guy working in his place. His only exposure with the legend though was what he'd learned working in the museum.

In the city square there's a Mothman statue made of steel. Seems there was an idea of lighting the eyes but people were worried it would cause traffic accidents! In the nearby river museum you can see a number of artifacts from the history of maritime traffic on the Ohio river. Probably of most interest to the Mothman legend is a model of the Silver Bridge which was seen in the Travel Channel's 'Mysteries at the Museum'.

It's a neat town, very small and looks like it must have in the '50s. A sorta Northern version of Mayberry. There's more statues in town as well as a series of murals dedicated to Chief Cornstalk and other local personalities.

Looks fun! Is Point Pleasant off I64? I could make a pit stop next time I make a glass buying run to Milton (I have a Blenko addiction to feed).

I'm looking at Mapquest and it's on 62 just off 35 about an hour north of Charleston right on the Ohio border. I didn't see any lodging in town and had to drive over the replacement for the Silver Bridge to a motel in Ohio.

There's about a dozen outdoor murals and a half dozen statues. Also a memorial to Chief Cornstalk. And you can sit on the bank of the Ohio River and watch tugs pushing and pulling barges up and down it. I only got an option on the forum to post three photos or I'd have put up more. I made a day out of it, parking the car and just walking around looking at stuff. It's probably three miles or less just to walk about and look at everything.

Ah, OK. I came roughly through that area the year I had to make the emergency rental car drive back from B-Fest because United cancelled my flight and wouldn't give me another for 4 days.

Is that bridge the infamous Silver Bridge? The one that collapsed at the end of the whole Mothman flap?

I have got to get down to see this museum sometime. I love cryptozoology and general weirdness and this is almost in my back yard. Heck, old Mothy may be staging a comeback if you believe some people. Go and search for 'Conewago Phantom' to read some more accounts of him. Heck, he/it's supposedly been seen hovering over Chicago of late.

It's actually the replacement. I think the tore down what was left of the Silver Bridge. They have a link from it in the River Museum. As said I drove over the replacement a couple of times, kinda interesting experience when you think about what happened to the original.

The museum runs a short tour of the TNT site where the MM was mostly seen. Unfortunately I was there on the wrong weekend for the tour. And they run a MM festival every year. I keep intending to drive up for it but never get around to it. The museum website has a schedule for everything.

I haven't heard of the 'Conewago Phantom'- I'll look that up- thanks!!!!

I'd seen some videos of MM sightings in Chicago on YouTube and was wondering if people might be confusing him with Jabootu...

I just looked at the museum website and noted they proclaim that they get visitors 'from all over the world'. I'd love to see what sort of messages get left in their guestbook if that's true.

Lol, guess I should have checked the guest book out when I was there. I mean it's cool if you're in the area but I can't imagine traveling any distance to see it.

If you ever get the chance, see if the guestbook has the name 'Indrid Cold' in it. :D
