So, this weekend I had a day all to myself and I got a few things watched. Mostly MST3K episodes I hadn't had (turns out I can watch some for free because of our Amazon Prime membership). However, I also decided to get a couple of the last remaining '80s Euro-zom movies off the list. (Unless I'm mistaken, the only one I have left now is The Beyond.)

Grapes of Death: Kind of like a zombie movie the way 28 Days Later is. A new pesticide sprayed on grapes get into the wine made from said grapes and turns everyone who drinks it into disintegrating madmen. Our protagonist tries desperately to escape them. It's not too bad; the make-up and gore effects are pretty strong. (The severed head gag is an exception; the fake head and fake torso are both painfully obvious. However, despite this, the actual head removal still packs a bit of a punch somehow.) A few of the make-up effects are really surprising in how good they are (one I'm not quite sure how they pulled it off). The movie moves along pretty well and generally makes sense. The one thing that is off would be the occasional sudden jumps ahead in time; they prove to be a bit disorienting. We get several good-looking women topless (and one, a former porn star, doffs it all). It's not too bad, honestly; definitely worth a viewing.

This was in complete contrast to...

Zombie Lake: Yes, I FINALLY got around to this. I have to say, even with all the reviews the B-Masters have done, none of them did justice to actually watching it. WOW. Even knowing they were coming, I still laughed my ass off at things like the lake/pool differences, the lack of wound to that one woman's neck (and the zombie's make-up flaking off in large chunks during the attack), the crew in the mirror, the blood tube, the zombie dad subplot...good lord. I have to say, the zombie fist fight was actually funnier than I expected by several degrees. I had no idea you could make a zombie tap out. I assume you've all already seen it, but if not, do so. What a scream.
