King of the Grill TONIGHT on Discovery Channel….

The pilot for a show starring Kirk Draut’s friend Ritch Robin, King of the Grill, premieres tonight on the Discovery Channel. Kirk worked on the show and I think appears on it. I’ve met Ritch several times through Kirk, and he’s a great, great guy.

Details here. It’s on after Mythbusters, so 9:00 PM Central Time.

Ironically, I’ll probably miss it tonight. Went to work like two hours early because of heavy rains. I had no idea how bad, though. The last half mile or so I was plowing my car through a foot of water, praying it wouldn’t die. (Spoiler alert: it didn’t. Thank you, Hundai!) Now I’m wondering if we’ll even open the library, as I don’t see how other staff can get here. And even if it does, I’m not sure how I’ll get home tonight with the roads all flooded. Last time this happened, earlier this year, most of the roads in the area were closed for an entire week. And believe me, with the amount of traffic around here, that’s a problem. If anything, this seemed worse. Oh, well, it’s not The Blitz or anything.

In any case, please watch the show tonight. I’ll have my brother record it, so I can catch it this weekend. Let’s all hope it’s a big hit. Good luck, Kirk and Ritch!

Yeeps! I thought this was another MOD!
Oh, I woulden’t wanna eat THAT!

  • Ken_Begg

    In Texas, you eat gator!

  • Ericb

Gator wrapped in bacon? Looks pretty good, assuming that gator tastes like like some kind of fowl and it is stuffed with something other than gator guts.

  • Kirk

He’s stuffed with [REDACTED], tasted pretty good. He does have a whole chicken in his mouth. Watch tonight for the recipe!

  • Gamera977

Ahhh, it’s a chicken! I couldn’t figure out what it was. I’ll give the show a whirl!

The one time I had gator I thought it tasted like shrimp, maybe I need my taste buds recalibrated…

  • Gamera977

Neat show, I really didn’t expect that level of detail on the Shuttle grill and was really impressed with just how badass the whole thing was. And though I prefer ‘real’ barbecue aka North Carolina style Zeeman’s stuffed bacongater had my mouth watering!

  • Ken_Begg

Luckily, all the predictions of continued rain proved false. So ten hours later when my work day ended, things had gotten a lot better. Still some street closings, but not nearly as many as the last time we flooded a few months ago. The big difference is that the river didn’t flood this time; it just came very, very close.

  • GalaxyJane

    I want Baconigator!

  • Ken_Begg

I’m pretty sure he fought MegaShark.

  • Gamera977

That’s good to hear Ken, thankfully we haven’t had a serious flood since ’85 – what a gigantic mess that was though.

GJ: I think everyone wants a piece of Baconigator!

  • Mr. Rational

In Soviet Russia, gator eats you!

    (Also, pretty much everywhere else.)

  • The Rev.

I was able to watch my DVR recording last night. I enjoyed the show, and not just for the thrill of seeing a friend on TV. That was a hell of a grill they kicked out, and in less than a week, too. Kirk, do you have some sort of engineering background, or just a lot of experience? Just curious how you came up with something like that, and made it completely functional to boot.

  • The Rev.

Also, I would eat the hell out of that [REDACTED]-stuffed, bacon-wrapped gator.

  • Ken_Begg

Yeah, I saw the show Sunday at my brother’s, and it was a hoot. Here’s hoping it goes to series.

They should strategize their designs whilst playing a round of Cthulhu Wars with all the expansion packs. Synergy!

  • Kirk

My background is mostly photography, but I grew up working on my own cars and my dad taught us all how to build and repair stuff.

  • Kirk

If you missed it, we are airing again at 9/8 am on Sunday July 14.
