WTF?

“Warner has revealed Birdman and The Galaxy Trio: The Complete Series and Space Ghost & Dino Boy: The Complete Series for release on 7/17.”

Dammit, where’s The Herculoids?

Here’s the thing: Hawkman and Space Ghost are achoring the sets because their recent parody cartoons on Cartoon Network have granted them modern name recognition. Meanwhile, Dino Boy and Galaxy Trio are filling out the sets because they could in no way support their own release. I imagine Warners is figuring The Herculoids potentially could, and so are saving them if these sets prove popular.

There’s the rub, though. If these sets don’t sell, we won’t see The Herculoids series out for a loooong time. And considering that a fantastic show like Johnny Quest didn’t sell well enough to justify a second season set, well, I’m more than a little concerned.

  • If I remember correctly, Dino Boy and the Galaxy Trio were back-up cartoons on the Space Ghost and Birdman shows, as well. Therefore, they couldn’t do a complete series without including those cartoons.

Mike P’s right. I’ve seen reruns of the Space Ghost show on Boomerang, and they’d usually sandwich a Dino Boy in between two SGs. Same with the Galaxy Trio.
I’m guessing the idea was that SG and Birdy kicked so much ass they had to have a breather in there, a ‘toon sorbet if you will, to keep the kiddies from getting overstimulated on kick-assery.

The Herculoids…I remember liking it as a kid, but I haven’t seen any episodes in my adulthood. I’d like the chance though.

I wish I’d known about that Johnny Quest set sooner. That’s one of the only cartoons from my youth that holds up to my memories, and that provides me with as much entertainment today as it used to. Time to save up methinks…

  • The Johnny Quest set is killer.

Speaking shows that need to be on DVD, where’s the love for the Banana Splits?

  • PCachu

Apparently I’m not old and crotchety enough yet. The show I would buy in a heartbeat if it hit DVD?

    Earthworm Jim.

  • The Rev. D.D.

Hey, yeah…where the hell IS Earthworm Jim?

I managed to snag a couple of video tapes from a store for dirt cheap back in college and I still pull them out once in a while. Good show.

I loved Petey the Puppy constantly quoting “Dune” to keep himself calm. And the goldfish that sounded like a Southern televangelist.
