The Future of Futurama…

In a web interview about (who cares) the Simpsons movie, Matt Groening also had some much more interesting comments about Futurama

By the way, I actually wrote that intro before checking out the interview, and then saw this:

Groening:  “…my night job after The Simpsons is Futurama, which is coming back on Comedy Central in 2008, 16 new episodes.”  HOLY CRAP!!  THAT’S AWESOME!!

Anyone who checks out the interview can correct me if I’m wrong, because I found it a little confusing, but it sounds like the four DVD movies that were booted about earlier are now being the basis for the 16 new Comedy Central episodes?  I can’t really tell what he’s saying here.  The movies will be released on DVD and then cut up and altered to make the 16 episodes?  The episodes are replacing the idea of movies?  The movies and the episodes are separate and will both get made?  I think it’s the second one, but I can’t really be certain.

Still, though, that’s just great news.

  • I think the plan was that Comedy Central was going to chop up the movies and air them as episodes. Not 100% on that, though.
