Amazon Deal of the Day: Thriller…

Sadly, I can no longer exploit you all financially. Even so, I thought I should mention this terrific deal.

Today only Amazon is featuring the Boris Karloff anthology series Thriller for $52.50, which is 65% off the $150 list price. The set contains 56 hours of content, 67 episodes, so on that basis its pretty cheap. As well, they *really* larded on the quality extras on this set, including a ton of commentary tracks (24 hours’ worth) for individual episodes.

Anyway, well worth the money. Check out the consumer reviews for more details.

Thanks Ken for the heads up. Ordered this though Andrew Borntreger’s site.

Good chap! I’d say I hope you enjoy the set, but honestly, I can’t see how you wouldn’t.

Well, I love ‘The Outer Limits’ and like ‘The Twilight Zone’ so I figure I can’t miss here.

Several of the first season shows are more mundane ‘thrillers,’ but especially when the program started going more in a supernatural direction, it got pretty great. And those casts!

From what I saw on Amazon that’s a great list of actors. Even if some of the first season is a little slow at this price I’m the last one to complain.

Still doesn’t hurt to know what you’re getting. Wouldn’t want you getting discouraged at the comparative lack of fantasy oriented material in the early days, if that’s what you’re expecting.

Again, it’s a great show and I’m entirely sure you’ll dig it.

I just found out a couple of days ago that a local station is airing episodes of this late on Sundays.  I recorded the episode on the DVR, which is the infamous “Pigeons from Hell” one.  I’m looking forward to checking it out.

If you start chronologically, it starts out really, really slow.  And some of the episodes are very over-padded.  There’s an early one with Mort Sahl and Colonel Klink that just draaaaaaaaaagged.

Actually, Ken, you may be able to soon.  I believe the Illinois “Amazon” law was recently struck down by a Cool county circuit judge.  Depending on how things shake out, Amazon might bring back their affiliate program in Illinois.

Yeah.  I bought this through Ken, back when he still had his Amazon link up.  I remember being disappointed by pretty much the baker’s dozen of the first season episodes.  The only ones I liked were the ones with Rip Torn (a neat little haunted house bit), and one with Karloff as the host and the star (about a second-rate “psychic” whose predictions start coming true).

And then, starting with “The Cheaters,” it just hit home run after home run.  I thought the series started to become too much about the occult toward the end, but for a season and a half it was consistently brilliant.  And oh, but it had a WICKED sense of humor when it wanted to…there’s one fantastic episode with Elizabeth Montgomery that simply has to be seen to be believed.  (It’s “Masquerade,” from the second season.)
