B-Fest line-up finally posted!

A week before the event! Whew!

Several of us veterans go stud, so please don’t discuss titles / obvious details of any film here. However, general remarks–over all strength of the line-up, balance in production dates and genres, etc.–are entirely welcome.

Non-spoiler:  I notice that Red Letter Media (the guys behind the Plinkett reviews) are sponsors.  That’d be pretty cool if they showed up in person.

  • My first impression is favorable: it seems like a good mix of genres. I think it’s tilted a little toward the 1970s, but there’s stuff from other eras too. I think we’re also finally seeing the effect of the new projection system: more titles that were never released in theaters.

If they do, I’m gonna try to get their autographs.

I’m serious.   Those guys are awesome.

Well, as usual, there are a couple of big names who should be embarrassed to be seen at B-Fest, so that should be fun.  I’ve seen four of these before, and will be able to fill a couple REALLY BIG “You should have seen this” holes in my B-movie knowledge.  And I agree that the genre mix is pretty good.  They’ve even done a decent job mixing the color and B&W films.

There does seem to be something missing, though…I could say what it is, but I’m unsure whether Ken would consider it a spoiler, so I won’t mention it just to be on the safe side.  Its absence makes this a sort of non-traditional lineup from my admittedly limited experience, and there are some definite risks being taken.  We’ll just have to see if this pans out.

Does anyone know why it took them so long to get the lineup posted? Also, there have been two lineup changes since this was posted this morning, which is a little weird. I’m generally in favor of this lineup. A lot of stuff I’ve never seen before, which is always nice, and some movies I’ve been meaning to see for years but never did. My only complaint is that I don’t think the movies are quite consistently terrible enough. There are certainly no good movies in the lineup (heaven forbid!), and there is some true garbage in the lineup, but all the same I don’t think I’ll be clawing my eyes out (which is what I look for in a b-movie marathon).

Looking over the line-up again, since I’m not going, makes me wish I was going.

Mr. Rational, if the RLM guys do show up, if you can get a spare autograph, I’d be appreciative.

If they’re there, I promise to try.  You want them to make it out to somebody, BC?  Or is just names enough?

  • Mr. Rational

Well, one of the lineup changes was just to add a movie, so that’s okay — maybe they had it programmed and it just didn’t appear on the website.  I wonder why they had to swap that other movie out, though.

That almost always happens, just because of the number of films they order. Usually the rental company (probably Swank) finds they can’t provide one film and sends something off the backup list instead. Given how late–I’m assuming–they ordered the films, I’m pretty sure this would have been more of an issue if they weren’t doing a lot of DVD projecting this year.
