This is not a joke…

I remember reading about this last year and thinking it was ridiculous. I can’t believe they are actually going through with it. For one thing I can’t see how the two U2 guys are going to be able to write a competent showtunes. U2’s better work (I don’t even wan’t to contemplate their bad work) is largly based on grooves and atmosphere rather than melody so I would think these are not the best guys to write a Broadway musical.

Look at it this way, its already better than Spiderman 3.

Well, who would have thought that the front man for Oingo-Boingo would be able to create music scores. Maybe we should give them a chance.

Well Danny Elfman had much more of a musical background than either Bono or The Edge (hey guys, you’re not young punks any more, can’t you use your real names?)and started writing soundtracks fairly early in his career. Bono and The Edge, on the other hand, have been running on fumes for more than a decade. If they had some hidden well of melodic talent I think it would have shown up by now.

Edge did do a few movie scores many moons ago, but you are right, they have been coasting lately…

  • Don’t forget there was a Superman musical back in the early 1970’s. They tried to get a Batman Broadway musical off the ground years ago. As we speak there’s an opera based on The Fly. Besides, I can’t imagine a Spider-Man Broadway musical being any tackier than Seussical.

FYI – An opera based on the life of Anna Nicole Smith is being penned in London as we speak.
