Aside from Sandy Petersen’s longstanding YouTube Channel, our own Mr. Rational, appearing under his nom de RL of Mason, has been posting in-depth videos dissecting films with his colleague Matt for a while now. They used to have a podcast called Double Double Feature, where they each picked a film and then each also picked a double feature to watch with it. It was great, but I think the format was too unwieldy to attract that big of an audience.
Today they launched a new venture, L.A. Movies, which is self-explanatory and kicks off with one of the big guns, Sunset Boulevard. It’s a pretty great discussion, and hopefully the tighter focus on one film draws more of an audience. In any case, the two have a fantastic rapport and really know their stuff. Good luck, guys!
PS: I should note that although I call their discussions podcasts, which they basically are, they do a lot of nice, slick editing with images and so to keep things visually interesting as well. That’s a lot more work for an hour-long presentation, and it would be churlish of me not to acknowledge all the extra work attendant to that.
