Crazy….

Sound of Freedom, a $15 million dollar movie about trying to stop child sex slavery, has officially passed Indiana Jones 4 and it’s $300 million plus budget at the domestic box office. That’s nuts. Admittedly, IJ4 has also garnered (a pretty paltry) $200 foreign, but still, that is just crazy.

Movies, particularly from the big studios, have been ruined. Even when the goal isn’t to harangue the audience (I understand the Indiana Jones movie doesn’t do this), people don’t trust big studio films any more. People want to be entertained, not lectured about their shortcomings.

Well, the problem is when the people MAKING the movies harangue the audience before the film comes out on social media. (Snow White is the obvious current example; I’m sure the director of Blue Beetle is thankful.) It certainly doesn’t make you want to take a flier on a three hour movie that you even suspect is going to play that way.

Also, if would help if Indie was the the central character and, you know, wiser and smarter than the punk (comparative) kid in the film. Finally, putting that utterly retarded “You stole it from them and I stole it from you and now I’m selling it….that’s capitalism!’ line in the frickin’ trailer.

  • That line hurt so bad. So very stupid.

  • I still haven’t seen it. This month I’ve either been travelling or had something else going on. I need to fix that before it leaves the theater.

To be fair, SOF only started getting limited overseas release in the last week or so, so it’s always possible for it to catch up there as well. It’s no more unlikely than its already startling success.

Wait, they actually have a line like that in the trailer? Hoo boy.
