Sorry, I (really do honestly) try not to push my weird anime obsession here. Even so, I mean, c’mon, this isn’t an anime classic, or an animation classic, it’s just a movie classic. Ghibli made many, many great movies, but this is one of the best. Great for kids, obviously.
Next Monday is the only subtitled showing (essential for me), Sunday and Wednesday. Playing nationally through Fathom Events.
Oh, and on the 15th of August, another Monday, they will be showing Coraline for those who prefer a bit more of a macabre mood. Other Ghibli’s showing this year still include Only Yesterday (slice of life), Howl’s Moving Castle, and the all time great Spirited Away. Also this year: Star Trek 2 Wrath of Khan, Poltergiest, In the Heat of the Night, Dr. No, To Kill a Mockingbird, and It’s a Wonderful Life. Any of those worth seeing in a theater. Again, details on the Fathom Events site.
