Trailers….

With the big Comic Con happening, lots of trailers are coming out. Most of them I have no interest in, but a few caught my eye. You can check them out on YouTube.

The trailer for Godzilla King of the Monsters does a good job of setting up a huge monsterfest (Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, Ghidrah) without blowing too much. This should be fun.

Speaking of fun, there’s the Shazam trailer (not Captain Marvel, for obvious reasons). Its a fairly fun looking take on the Big Red Cheese. Let’s hope this isn’t one of those deals where the funniest gags are all in the trailer.

Easily the most hilarious trailer, though, is the ghastly looking one for Titans, the first original show of the upcoming DC streaming service. If it was a parody of the whole Warner/DC Grim and Gritty thing, it would be a work of genius. Instead it tries so hard to be shocking that it goes straight into comedy. Apparently everyone on the team kill crazy (sweet Starfire is seen immolating several people), and even Dove–DOVE!!!–basically hacks a guy’s leg off. Oh, and Robin says “Fuck Batman!” before killing a bunch of dudes, because it’s edgy to the MAXXX and all EXXXTREME and stuff. Remember when David Kelly’s Wonder Woman said tits? It’s like that.

  • *Nothing* is like when David Kelley’s Wonder Woman said “tits”. NOTHING!!!

Yeah, I’ll probably be hitting ‘Godzilla’. I thought the previous US ‘Godzilla’ was so-so. ‘Kong: Skull Island’ I liked better but still not enough to pick it up on DVD.

I’ve been seeing the ads for ‘Meg’ and it looks bad enough that it should be fun. I might just have to give it a shot.

BTW: Considering how much Ken jokes about his overly long reviews I just watched a eight hour plus review of ‘The Last Jedi’ on YouTube by the Anti-Trekker. Great review but really when your review is three time longer than the subject you might be going into a little too much detail… ;)

Sorry, I didn’t mean to diminish what I’m sure was a very important moment of female empowerment for you.

  • The monsters are entirely too big, but God is it good to see Rodan again.

  • The Rev.

Well, that’s been how this series has been going, with everything so much larger than before.

Just watched the trailer. I’m intrigued by the lava-looking edges to Rodan’s wings; made me think of Fire Rodan. Very little of Mothra, and even less of KG, which is good. I’m interested in this turn the story has taken; I just hope it doesn’t get really heavy-handed.

I was okay with the first Godzilla, and really enjoyed Kong: Skull Island. Here’s hoping for the best. I’m a bit less concerned than I was with the first one, but considering the previous American attempt, I think my worries were very well-founded then.

Something else that might be of interest is an upcoming spoof called NOTZILLA, DUKE OF THE MONSTERS. Pop and my brother are right now building the monster suit for that one! It’s supposed to be getting a theatrical release next year.

    SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Eric Hinkle

Good luck with it! The few pictures I’ve seen of your monster-suits were great.

Everything I’ve heard about the ‘Titans’ trailer makes it sound like someone’s satirizing the worst excesses of 90’s ‘grimdork’ comics. But apparently not.

They even mock it over on Babylon Bee (a Christian satire site) in their entry for the SDCC. They list it as DC Comics flashing the word “F***!” written in blood on a black screen for two hours straight. ‘DC still knows how to bring us the quality edge!’

  • Rock Baker

They make some good monsters, for sure. Happy to see them working on a studio film now!

  • If by that you mean that I felt empowered to burn every extant copy of that atrocity, sure. I am also glad to know that no matter how “strong” and “powerful” a woman I become, I will still end up a sad pathetic loser with too many cats and a Facebook obsession. Oh, crap.

Would you like to meet my newest kitten, Moon Pie?

  • And yes, I know I am late, have been out of town all week.

  • RWA

I’m hoping the Shazam movie revives interest in the classic Tom Tyler serial, my choice for the best serial ever made and still one of the best superhero comic adaptations.
