Sandy’s latest kickstarter game is monster-riffic!

Dicenstein is running on Kickstarter now. It’s a monster-themed dice game with that trademark Petersen gameplay and a metric ton of oversized, monster-themed etched dice. Basically you are a mad scientist who robs monster graves and then uses the parts of the bodies to build your own monster army. Then you fight other mad scientists and their monster armies.

If anyone wishes to have a great game, or support Sandy, or just help pay him back for having created T-Fest ten years ago, this would be a good time to kick in.  If you can’t afford or don’t want to game itself, heck, pledge a buck just to show support.

There’s also a game review video posted on the Kickstarter, and on YouTube.

I’m sure we’ll see game and dice prototypes this weekend at his house, or at least the people attending T-Fest will. Off to Houston now, have a great week everyone. I’ll see several of you on Friday/Saturday.

Have fun at T-fest and travel safely, and all the best to Sandy’s kickstarter.

Since Lord Jabootu’s on hiatus for the next couple of days, maybe we could do an open thread? I was checking out Godzilla movies for sale on Amazon and noticed that a number of them (particularly Destroy All Monsters) apparently have new dubbed soundtracks and not the original AIP dubs I remembered from TV broadcasts back in the day. Can anyone provide a list of DVD/VHS releases of Godzilla/Kaiju movies that feature their original TV dubs and NOT the new “international” soundtracks?

  • Gamera977

Yes, I wish the best of luck to Sandy here. I’d chip in but I’ve already got a pile of games with no one to play them with and about a dozen Kickstarter PC games I’ve subscribed to right now.

I normally watch them with subtitles when available instead of the dubbing. How do I tell if they’re the original AIP versions or the new ones?

  • Beckoning Chasm

I can tell you that The Mysterians DVD has a new dub. Pity, as the old AIP dub had one of my favorite lines, concerning the giant robot at the beginning of the film. Hearing of the menace, a general remarks, “I understand even a pistol had no effect!”

  • Unfortunately the Godzilla v. the Sea Monster DVD doesn’t have the original American version. Which is a shame, as that has a performance by Barney Millar/Hal Linden on it.

To discuss bad movies — Was just watching this movie titled ‘Night of the Wild’ about a meteor
turning dogs into feral killers. It’s basically 1976’s DOGS with more gore and
less of a plot. One “great” moment has a woman dragged to her death by
    her two toy poodles.

And next they show two little girls being
torn limb from limb by the dogs as the kids scream in agony and terror.
Thankfully and obviously the dogs just playing; never thought I’d be so
    glad for lousy SFX!

Congratulations, SyFy Channel, you officially hit a new low. Killing kids for a cheap thrill in a B-movie.

Being SyFy did they use CGI toy poodles? (snicker)

BTW: Rock has a list of thirty-five horror movies and TV shows suitable for Halloween up on his blog. Couple there I’ve never even heard of.

  • Eric Hinkle

Nope, no CGI with the dogs, not even when they had what looked like several hundred on screen at once. I was surprised to see them using so many.

Though they *did* have the “savage, feral dogs” wagging their tails as they “attacked” people and basically in obvious “Play-play-play!” postures. Best of all was the woman killed by the poodles — right before that she was holding her dogs up to her face and asking if “Her babies wanted to hurt their mommy”. Of course they bite her nose off, or so we’re told; in reality, the two poodles were being shaken around, with her holding them to her face, and the poor dogs looking utterly confused.

And! At the end, when the survivors escape to a nearby airport, they get guided in on the radio by the control tower. Only for us to see that when they land, the killer dogs have slaughtered everyone. Surprise Twist Ending! I asked over on SyFy’s Facebook account if one of the dogs was in the tower and barking instructions into the mike to lure them in! “Yes, it is safe here. You can land here. PS — Please bring Kibble.”

He put Attack of the Supermonsters on that list! Yay Rock!

Yeah, a couple there I’m not familiar with, either. The Terrornauts piques my interest.
