THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL.(The good one)

When Gort melted the tanks and rifles, and the AA gun...why didn't the ammo explode? :?

The tank is an M-24 Chaffie recon tank. That 75mm gun has a load of about maybe 45 rounds.
Ever see a tank when it's ammo cooks off? Remember those Iraqui T-72s in Desert Storm?
And don't mention the fuel tanks...

Excellent point. Wouldn't that also be true of Godzilla (and every other flame breathing monster) movies as well?

Not sure this actually counts as a "blunder", but it always annoyed me that in Star Trek II, during the final battle, Spock points out that Khon thinks in only 2 dimensions (during the battle inside the nebula). So, Kirk orders the Enterprise to drop a couple kilometers and lets Khon pass above him. Then, he rises up behind him to take the kill shot. Why the heck raise up to the same plane to do that??? All he had to do is pivot the enterprise 90 degrees from where he was and he had a kill shot from below. . .

Well, you realize, of course, the reason why the movie did it this way is because filmmakers figure that the shot of a ship suddenly rising in the background always looks "cool" (Blue Thunder, Aliens, Star Trek 5, etc.)

But since we're on the subject, it always bothered me in the ST episode "Balance of Terror" why the Enterprise tried to avoid the Romulan phaser fire by going full reverse and trying to "outrun" it.
A light beam, deadly or not, follows a straight line. Just order the Enterprise to reverse course at, say, a 15 degree angle (any direction), and within ten or so seconds the ship would have been out of the phaser beam's line of sight anyway.

ZW: If I may be a little anal here the Romulan weapon was as I understand it a super-heated plasma cloud that expanded as it moved toward the Big-E so I guess you could argue it was quicker to run away from it and hope it disperses in time rather than slide past it. Or am I over-thinking things???

Does bring up the point that what the heck are phaser/blaster weapons in ST/SW to me though. I mean you see the beam shoot out of the weapon, when you turn on a flashlight/torch it's on- you can't see the beam shoot out. So the phaser/blaster is made of particles that move much slower than light.

Or because it looks cool!!!

I still think it looks as silly as hell to see a jedi deflect blaster bolts with a light saber though.

THE BEGINNING OF THE END.
Yes, with Mike and the bots...

If the hero can't kill the big hoppers with Cloridane or other insecticides...why don't they just put 'em to sleep with the stuff they use to CAPTURE a live hopper!? :x
Or am I thinking too much?

RE: Romulen Plasma Torpedo. In the game Starfleet Battles, the torp is a warp seeker, and can only be diverted by going full stop, and launching a 'Wild Weasel,' a shuttle rigged to broadcast it's warp signiture in place of the ships sig.
Also, game rules that phasers, and only phasers (Which are a combo of laser AND particle beam) can drain the torp by half the phaser shots damage potential.

Nerd mode off...for now...

Oh the nerding...the nerding...

Quite true. I say the audience thinks two-D, which explains a lot.
(Sigh)
And...
As ST/TOS established that phasers can be used at warp speeds, the way they show space battles with both ships in the shots, on screen, can only be from the lack of abstract thinking.
Why?
If they showed weapons coming out of the far distance, to represent the distances possible in that environment (Warp drives and advanced computers)the cutting between points of view (IE: Shooter and target) might confuse the smaller minds in the audience.
I'D get it, YOU"D get it, but...
(sigh)
