Anyway, the film had but one release on VHS some years back and the tape is now pretty scarce. It'd be a great Christmas present for him if I could track it down. Anyone have a copy?

Actually the film is about a doctor who creates a thin metal film to use to replace skin on burn victims. Unfortunately the metal film soon dries to steel hardness making it unsuitable for a skin replacement.
However; am EVIL military guy has a werewolf brought back from Transylvania and has the doctor graft the metal skin replacement onto him in his human form, so that when he turns into a werewolf he's bulletproof!!!
Decent flick, I swear almost every Sci-Fi original movie is based on this. Evil US military creates a monster, hero guy and cute gal track it down. Monster is bulletproof. Good guys come up with some novel way (poison, electrocution, drowning, etc) to kill it.

SPOILER: it ends with the good guys melting down the base commander's silver coin collection to make a warhead for an anti-tank rocket launcher (think RPG/bazooka) to take down the metalbeast!
