Here's a trip down memory lane for anyone who grew up in the 70s. I remember a few of these when they were first broadcast. Yeah, and The Long Night scared the hell out of me too

Why is it that TV movies have not attained their rightful place in entertainment?

We live in a world now where TV his kicking the butt of theatrical films. Why is it that studios are not announcing big movies that are going to be broadcast on TV? It might give the actors in Hollywood something to do finally. Instead of playing second fiddle to computer a special effects.

If you want me to point to a movie franchise that has done very well on TV, I would say the Jesse Stone mysteries would be a good candidate.

Call me crazy, the kind of feel like the days of the big BlockBuster are over. At least for now.

Okay, you're crazy.

The current model certainly needs to change, and will change, but blockbusters aren't going anywhere. Not when Guardians of the Galaxy 300 million domestic (with another 300 million international).

The was the ONLY, repeat, ONLY success this summer. Lets face it. The summer of 2014 will go down in history as one of the suckiest ever.

On the television front, television series are enjoying unprecedented attention and respect. It's kind of weird to see movie awards shows have presentations by television stars these days. Mainly because they can hold their heads up higher than anyone who's working in movies.

From what I am reading, the movie market is gearing toward Asian markets because they'll watch anything that is splashed on celluloid. So who needs quality control.

Television movies could step in and deliver something unique to their country of origin. No need to factor in foreign influence. So why not make a movie for television and hype the hell out of it.

Look at Sharknado, that was a bad film. Could you imagine what the revenue would have been like if that had been a good film?

Only if you define success as "more than 300 million domestic".

From boxofficemojo, 2014 domestic totals to date.
• GotG: 308M
 • Captain America: 259M
 • The LEGO Movie: 257M
 • Transformers Age of Extinction: 245M
 • Maleficent: 239M
 • X-Men Days of Future Past: 233M
 • Dawn of Planet of the Apes: 206M
 • Amazing Spiderman 2: 202M
 • Godzilla: 200M
 • 22 Jump Street: 190M
• It hasn't been a great year, but in no world is GotG the only success this summer, even if you toss out LEGO which came out in February, I believe.
