When AC briefly had the rights to release a DVD of THE CREEPING UNKNOWN, this was the very image that made the cover sleeve. I've often felt that aesthetic and iconic science fiction images more or less died off with the coming of ALIEN, which was just too crowded and detailed. The main exception I can think of was the opening shot of STAR WARS, but mostly I think simplicity has an edge. I haven't even seen it since the premier on HBO, but I still recall a single image from the remake of ATTACK OF THE 50FT WOMAN, of Nancy cowering from a flying saucer out in the middle of the desert. The image was very simple, and I think made much more of an impact than something like the Borg engaging Starfleet over the Earth.

Speaking of old style rockets, as I said on another thread, I recently watched The Quatermass Xperiment for the first time in decades and had the following image seared into my brain to such a degree that I actually had it appear in a dream. In a remake this vehicle would probably be more realistically portrayed as a dented and burned space capsule but what what a loss that would be.

Got that right!
Ya gotta say something for British workmanship. Hits at that speed, and not a crumple or a bend to be seen.
If they did remake it, It'd likely be a form of shuttlecraft.

Maybe so, but that doesn't take away from how cool older ships like the Luna, Terra Five, Orbit Jet, Thunderbird One, or the Space Ark are. As much as I adore the design for the Enterprise, you can't really beat sleek silver finned rockets for out and out cool!

Don't forget the AAB Gamma! I love that one.

Oh, yes, I'd love a large-sized plastic kit of the AAB Gamma! Those more submarine-like space vehicles certainly have their place of honor! I'm reminded of of the similar craft in THE GREEN SLIME.
