If you can survive the 870 minute ordeal of this 1987 ABC miniseries, you are in for a treat.

Thanks but no thanks Terrahawk! I remember this (sorta) from the first time (and only time) I watched it. I'm not sure if this or 'The Day After' was worse...

The Day After was a lot shorter so it has that to its advantage. I read back in the day that Amerika was inspired by a criticism of The Day After with a person writing/saying that someone should make a movie called "Red America" as a riposte to The Day After. And then someone at a network said "Hey!"... and the rest it history.

Someone should hold a Kris Kristofferson, Heaven's Gate + Amerika marathon and make it an Olympic event.

The Day After was only two hours and politics aside, much better than Amerika.

I only remember snippets of the mini-series. My main impression though was how ineffectual everyone opposed to the Russians were. The Russians looked a lot better throughout the film.

Guess to be honest 'The Day After' did accomplice what it set out to do rather than the muddled mess that was 'Amerika'. Just didn't like either one very much though.

There's already a Hitchhiker 2.0 and it's called "The Hunger". You can actually stream what I think are all the episodes from both seasons from Netflix.

It was really quite disappointing too. There are actually a couple of pretty good episodes among the first 4 or 5 aired, but after that as near as I can tell it went downhill all the way to the bottom with the same laughably predictable, light-weight, soft-core stuff that made "The Hitchhiker" so bad.
