As noted, I liked the “Doctor lives on Earth fighting aliens with UNIT” years the best. Also, I never warmed up overmuch to either of the two Romanas. I don’t hate them, certainly, but they are no Leela, much less a Sarah Jane. The early Tom Baker years featured the best companion, the best Doctor outfit, and man, I love the recurring gothic horror vibes brought by producer Philip Hinchcliffe.
That said, although it didn’t really gel for me, the interconnected stories of the Keys of Time season was an interesting experiment. And it obviously informed a lot of New Who.
A couple more years and a somewhat bigger budget and look how much better the giant monster puppets got. Nicely done.
