Ugh, Never write these in a hurry right before leaving for work. Fight for Survival, mentioned in the last MotD, did kick up Sunday, But then I skipped columns and went right to Monday, including our last MotD feature Bloodbath at the House of Death. Anyway, after Fight for Survival was the German 1943 version of Münchhausen, which I enjoyed more the Gilliam version. But then, I’m not a huge fan of Gilliam, whose incessant adolescent nihilism I find grating. I will say that The Adventures of Baron Munchausen is probably my favorite Gilliam nonetheless, because the humor isn’t as hateful (Gilliam seems to enjoy the fabulist’s tales a bit too much for that) as his normal sort. Also, John Neville’s performance as the Baron is delightful. Still and all, I think I like this one better. It did make me want to check out the Gilliam version again, though.
