Sometimes famous directors make a pretty decent to great horror movie that for some reason becomes all but completely forgotten. Peter Jackson returned to his horror roots (albeit cleansed of the lowbrow gonzo comedy and insanely manic gore) with 1996’s The Frighteners, starring Michael J. Fox. The film has flaws, including a plot that heavily apes Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers. However, it also boasts a riotous turn by fan fave Jeffrey Combs as the most insane, paranoid version of Fox Mulder I have ever came across (although this might be a bit dated by now). It’s not a classic but it certainly deserves to be remembered more than it is.
