Monster of the Day #3869

“Rah. I’m a Monsta.”

The Friday Discord Watch Party feature was The Monster of the Piedras Blancas. It’s pretty fun, barely over an hour long and, as you can see, has a pretty cool monster. It’s one of the more successful attempts to alter the instantly iconic Creature of the Black Lagoon design. The film is also surprisingly gory for a ’50s film, falling into that X the Unknown / Atomic Submarine territory. I’m sure many tots had nightmares from the clearly displayed decapitated noggin lovingly displayed in the film. Really, the big problem is that when the monsters “talks” it’s Yoko Ono-levels of obnoxious. The cast have a cool familiar vets, such as Les “The Slime People” Tremayne and Don Sullivan, also the star of The Giant Gila Monster. Neat stuff.
